Hey there! It’s Karin here, and today I want to talk about something that’s been on my mind a lot lately. Have you ever felt like you’re working hard but not getting ahead? Like there’s some invisible force stopping you from reaching your dreams? Well, what if I told you that force might be your own beliefs?
As I enter my 30th week of pregnancy (yes, just 10 weeks to go!), I’ve been doing a lot of reflection about the beliefs that shape our lives. And I’ve realized something pretty mind-blowing: Many of the beliefs we hold as absolute truth were programmed into us without our permission or awareness.
How We Get Programmed
Think about it. From the moment we’re born, we’re absorbing messages from:
- Our parents and family
- Teachers and schools
- TV and media
- Friends and community
These messages become the foundation of how we see the world and our place in it. But here’s the thing – not all of these beliefs serve us. In fact, many of them might be exactly what’s holding us back from the success we desire.
My Money Story
One belief that limited me for years came from my dad. He always said, “Money doesn’t grow on trees. You have to work hard to earn it.”
As a teenager, I took this to heart. By 16, I was working multiple jobs, feeling proud that I was following this “truth” about money. But as I got older, I realized this belief was keeping me stuck in a cycle of trading time for dollars.
The belief that I had to work hard for money meant I couldn’t see other possibilities – like working smart, creating passive income, or building wealth through entrepreneurship. I was programmed to believe that making a million dollars was impossible unless I worked 40+ hours a week for 40 years!
Identifying Your Limiting Beliefs
So how do you figure out what hidden beliefs might be holding you back? Start by asking yourself these powerful questions:
- What’s something you were told as a child that you still believe today?
- Do you find yourself repeating certain phrases like “I’m not good enough” or “I’ll never be rich”?
- What areas of your life feel consistently stuck despite your efforts?
For me, I realized I had several beliefs keeping me from the next level:
- Money requires hard work and sacrifice
- Success is too good to be true
- If something good happens, it won’t last
Once you identify these beliefs, you’ll start seeing how they’ve shaped your entire reality. And the good news? Once you see them, you can change them.
Reprogramming Your Mind for Success
Here’s where the magic happens. Your subconscious mind (which makes up about 90% of your total mind) is incredibly powerful, but it believes whatever you consistently tell it.
This means you can literally reprogram yourself for success by:
- Challenging negative thoughts – When you catch yourself thinking “I can’t afford that” or “That’s impossible for someone like me,” stop and ask: “Is this really true? Who taught me this belief?”
- Using positive affirmations – Replace limiting beliefs with empowering ones. Instead of “Money is hard to earn,” try “Money flows to me easily and abundantly.”
- Visualizing success – Your subconscious mind can’t tell the difference between a vividly imagined event and a real one. Use this to your advantage!
- Controlling your inputs – The first 30-40 minutes of my day are sacred. No phone, no news, no social media. Just gratitude, affirmations, and reading something uplifting. This sets my mental tone for the entire day.
The First Step Is Awareness
What I’ve found most powerful is simply becoming aware of when these beliefs are operating. For instance, whenever I start a new project and immediately think “This probably won’t work,” I now recognize that’s not my truth speaking – it’s my programming.
When I used to sell at trade shows, if I wasn’t making sales early in the day while others were, those negative beliefs would kick in: “Maybe I’m not cut out for this. Maybe I should quit.”
But once I recognized those thoughts weren’t reality, I could step away, regroup, give myself a pep talk (“I am the best salesperson on this floor!”), and come back energized. And guess what? The sales would start flowing!
Your Turn to Break Free
So today, I challenge you to identify three beliefs that might be holding you back. Write them down, look at where they came from, and ask yourself: “Does this belief serve my highest good? Is it even true?”
Remember, if you can attract negativity into your life, you can attract positivity just as easily. It all starts with the words you speak, the thoughts you think, and the feelings you cultivate.
Your subconscious mind is always working, always listening. Make sure you’re feeding it messages of abundance, possibility, and success.
What limiting belief will you challenge today? I’d love to hear in the comments below! And if this post resonated with you, please share it with someone else who might need this message.
Here’s to breaking free from our limiting beliefs and creating the life we truly deserve!
With love,
Karin
